Follow along with us as we drive the beautiful Essex Coastal Scenic Byway in Massachusetts. We’ll show you some of our favorite places to stop along the coastal byway like Rockport, Gloucester, and Manchester-by-the-Sea.

The route of the Essex Coastal Scenic Byway takes you through 16 different communities along the coast of Massachusetts. The byway runs from Lynn (just north of Boston) all the way to Newburyport, which is right on the border of New Hampshire. All of the little communities are incredibly charming and are filled with beautiful New England architecture, as well as delicious sea food. Rockport is one of our favorite towns in Massachusetts.

Along you’re drive, you’ll also have to make sure to look out for the incredible houses that dot the coastline, especially on the coastline from Manchester-by-the-sea to Rockport. We even came across a castle just north of Gloucester named Hammond Castle, which was built by famous inventor John Hays Hammond Jr. back in the 1920s.
